QUICKBOOKS PREMIER 2003 SHIPS INCOMPATIBLE COMPONENT:

Yes, it is really true that QuickBooks' Premier 2003 and Contractor 2003 Editions install a copy of TX32.DLL that is incompatible with the version required by Profit Plan v2001 and earlier.  The net result is that Profit Plan will cease to load and run if either one of these 2003 QuickBooks editions is installed on the same PC as a copy of Profit Plan.

The reason for this difficulty is neither ours nor Intuit's, the publisher of QuickBooks.  Rather the issue relates to a version control problem experienced by the manufacturer of the TX32.DLL (text editor) control that both applications utilize.

WORK AROUNDS:

  1. Uninstall and reinstall either Profit Plan or the 2003 QuickBooks edition on another PC.  This will prevent either from using the other's components.  If you move QuickBooks to another machine, be sure to uninstall it from the current PC first.  Then reinstall Profit Plan to restore it's components.

    OR

  2. Download and install an additional set of necessary Profit Plan components directly into the Profit Plan application folder.  This will allow Profit Plan to load its own components and ignore those placed in C:\Windows\System by the QuickBooks installation.

  3. To download and install an additional set of components:

    1. Be sure that neither Profit Plan nor QuickBooks is currently running on your PC.

    2. Click this link to begin downloading the Profit Plan compatible components contained in the self extracting IQBPatch.exe file.

    3. When the download dialog appears, select the Save this program to disk option.

    4. Select C:\Profplan as the folder in which to store IQBPatch.exe, or use any folder you are certain to remember.

    5. After the download finishes,  locate the newly downloaded IQBPatch.exe file with the Windows Explorer.

    6. Double-click IQBPatch.exe to start the installation process.  The WinZip Self-Extractor dialog window will appear.

      1. The Unzip to folder text box will be preset to C:\Profplan, the path to Profit Plan's default installation folder.

NOTE: If Profit Plan is NOT currently installed in this folder, enter the correct path to Profit Plan's application folder.  (If unsure of the path, right-click the rightmost "Profit Plan v2001 -- Your Vision of Tomorrow" icon found in the Windows Start / Programs menu and select Properties.  Then copy the path shown in the resulting Shortcut tab's Start in text box.)  The newly downloaded components must be placed in that same folder in order for the patch to work.

      2. Click the Unzip button to install the supplied components into the specified UnZip to folder (typically C:\Profplan).

    7. For Windows 2000 and WindowsXP Users: After installing the patch, one final step is required to change where Windows looks for the VW32.OCX text control that utilizes TX32.OCX. Here's how:

      1. Click the Windows Start / Run option.

      2. Enter regsvr32 C:\Profplan\vw32.ocx in the Run text box.  Then click OK.

Note:  If you have installed Profit Plan somewhere other than C:\Profplan, use the path to that folder instead.  For example, the command might read: regsrv32 "C:\Program files\Security Development Corp\Profit Plan\vw32.ocx".  (The quote marks are necessary if there are spaces in the folder's path.)

Once the patch process is complete, feel free to start Profit Plan.  Now both Profit Plan and QuickBooks will be functional.
